How to Measure Viscosity:

1. Stir your slip or glaze thoroughly to ensure it’s well-mixed and free of air bubbles.

2. Fill the viscosity cup completely with the liquid to be tested.

3. Lift the cup and start timing as soon as the liquid begins to flow out of the bottom opening.

4. Stop the timer when the continuous stream first breaks.

5. Record the time (in seconds) — this is your viscosity reading.

   • Shorter time = thinner (lower viscosity)

   • Longer time = thicker (higher viscosity)

By comparing readings and supplier provided values, you can easily determine whether your slip or glaze needs adjustment with water or deflocculant to reach the desired consistency.
