High Fire

High fire clay bodies mature between Cone 8 and Cone 11, though a few can go as high as Cone 14. When fired, these clay bodies are stronger and denser, but also tend to shrink considerably more than earthenware. Almost all high fire clay are food safe and have low absorption levels, even when left unglazed. Hence, they are considered ideal for making functional tableware.
